Exhibit of Prehistoric Life
SABER TOOTHED CAT (Smilodon californicus) Californias
Official State Fossil.

Millions of years ago, California was
a place very different from what it is today. The climate
then supported life forms which have left their marks
throughout the entire state. California has proven itself
a treasure-trove of fossil finds with the world-famous
La Brea Tar Pits, a major source of fossilized remains
of prehistoric life forms dating back to the Pleistocene
period.
This exhibit features information and fossil remains of
some life forms which lived here in Tehama County millions
of years ago.
